This shop on Eksporta street has a really strange window dressing. Most likely they are selling building tools but it looks like it is closed for renovation. Photo by (c) Arnis Balcus
It took about a month to destroy the building on Kungu street in Old Riga. It was built in Soviet times and served as a storage hall for the main department store "Universālveikals". On the ground floor there also used to be a stationary shop. For the past 15 years the building was not used. The destruction works finished a couple of weeks ago and the area has been turned into a parking lot. Photos by (c) Arnis Balcus
This is a strange mural in the backyard of apartment blocks on Miera street in Riga. Possibly painted in late 1980s to create some sort of romantic atmosphere. Photo by (c) Arnis Balcus
These are photos from the Victory day celebration on 9 May in Riga. In Latvia 9 May is more than just a victory celebration, it is also an expression of collective identity for local Russians. On 9 May thousands of Russians go to the park, sing and listen to war songs, greet war veterans and picnic in the park. Photos by (c) Arnis Balcus
