Hard seats
It might sound unbelievable for the 21 century but in Latvia you can still find trains with hard wooden benches. Photo by (c) Arnis Balcus

Say what you want, but travelling by train in Latvia is great, they drive in time and are cheap. Maybe it sounds bad to sit on wood but its pretty comfortable and at least everybody can sit because the trains are very big, here in holland for example the trains are often so crowded that everyone has to stand on their feet whole the way.
Funny, but while I was in Belgium, i had a chance to sit in a train with heard benches as well - totally the same kind as in Latvia, so it is not so rare after all :)
